Exceptional Victorian Gold Locket or Vinaigrette, Diamond Set

A large and exceptional Victorian gold locket or vinaigrette of considerable weight and quality, measuring 3cm in diameter.

The outer case is cast and chased, the border densely worked with foliate and floral decoration and set throughout with dark tiny cabochon stones. Both faces carry fine engine-turned decoration. To the front, an applied silver diamond-set ornament centres the composition, a kite-shaped mount with scrolled shoulders.

The interior grille is no longer present, though the original hinge point remains visible. The interior now offers an ideal recess for a small memento or keepsake.

At 3cm this is a substantial pendant with real presence. Worn on a large antique chain it becomes an immediate focal point, the kind of piece that anchors a stack and stops people in their tracks. The condition is excellent throughout with no dinks or dents, rare for a piece of this age and weight.
