ANTIQUE SILVER SHIPS WHEEL COMPASS

Sale price£60.00 GBP

A silver compass in a ship’s wheel case by Pearce & Thompson of Birmingham, active between 1884 and 1914, with a strong, balanced form and well-defined construction throughout. The dial is set beneath domed glass with bold directional markers and a deep red centre, framed by a gilt border that lifts the whole piece and makes it far more versatile than a straight silver charm. That contrast allows it to sit comfortably with both silver and yellow gold chains, making it an easy addition into a mixed stack without looking out of place.

It is a working compass, however it can be a little erratic so I wouldn't suggest it is used for orienteering!

The glass shows light surface wear with a tiny crack to one side, and the dial has age-related spotting, both consistent with use.
