ANTIQUE 9CT GOLD LATE VICTORIAN FANCY DOUBLE ALBERT - RESERVED
This is the kind of Albert that reminds you just how inventive late Victorian goldsmiths could be. At first glance it reads as double trombone, but follow the detail and you realise this is far more elaborate than any standard example.
Each elongated bar is broken by shaped scalloped links, bold and geometric, structured and substantial. Between them sit faceted round joiners that catch the light differently again. Nothing about this chain is flat or ordinary.
The workmanship speaks of a period when even a gentleman's watch chain was an opportunity to demonstrate skill and ornament. Precise yet decorative, structured without heaviness, intricate without fuss. At 26.6 grams it has real substance, but it is the design that carries it.
The colour adds another dimension entirely. Predominantly yellow but with warmer flashes of rose that catch as the chain moves. Dimensional in a way that a single tone chain simply is not. It is a showcase of craftsmanship from a period that did not believe in making the ordinary.
