ANTIQUE 14CT FESTOON BEAD NECKLACE WITH PUFFY HEARTS RESERVED
Pretty. I do not use that word often, but this one earns it. A fine gold bead festoon necklace, antique, late 19th to early 20th century, with three dropping puffy hearts each individually decorated. One carries richly engraved decorative motifs on both faces within a beaded border. One has a star cut, identical front and back. The third has a four-leaf clover on the front and a star on the reverse. In Victorian symbolism the four-leaf clover represented faith, hope, love and luck combined. Not a dink or dent on any of them.
The gold colour is an absolute show stopper, burning bright and warm in a way that makes you think 22ct rather than the 14ct the chain actually tests at on XRF. The hearts test at 10ct and the jump rings at the clasp are stamped 9ct, mixed carats being entirely consistent with antique assembled pieces where components were commonly sourced separately. No hallmarks, but all XRF tested.
