THE HOLY GRAIL OF VICTORIAN 15 CARAT SNAKE LINK CHAINS
I was thrilled to discover this chain. Production of 15-carat gold ceased in 1932, making these chains, especially of this caliber, rare and sought after.
First and foremost, the gold is mesmerising. Even in the dim light of winter, it radiates a magical glow. It’s a word we often use to describe jewellery, but it truly is glowing. The snake links are silky, sinuous, and simply slinky. The chain has a reassuringly substantial feel to it, and it’s completed to perfection with its elegant engraved barrel clasp. It’s pure, pure elegant luxury. Someone is going to be incredibly fortunate to add this to their collection.
Hallmarks: None visible, but it’s tested as 15 carat gold.
Craftsmanship: Circa 1890-1900, England.
Dimensions: The ideal length of 19 inches. Weight: A luxurious 23 grams. The links are a generous 3.6mm in diameter.
Condition: In excellent antique condition, with only minor signs of wear. The only flaw I can see is a slight ding to the barrel clasp.
